Barack bought a half-hour of prime time on network T.V. next Wednesday night. Here is how I think he should use it: A few minutes laying out the basics of what he will do for country … tax cuts for everyone making less than $250k, investment in infrastructure, green energy.
Then …
He should say, “In these troubling economic times, what everyone could use is a little humor. Please enjoy my favorite episode of The Simpsons commercial free.”
Here are some suggestions, with no significance other than that they are favorites here at Didionville.
A Fish Called Selma, featuring “Rock Me Dr Zaius.”
A Streetcar Named Marge, featuring Maggie’s liberation of the pacifiers.

Barack will have my vote so long as the episode features the classic, “¡Qué malo! Once again I must sugar my own churro.” (Perhaps dubbed over an appropriate McCain photo.)

So you’ve bought into the notion that his ‘tax credits’ equal tax cuts?

a “credit” is a deduction, which “cuts” the total tax encumbrance. the money comes back as a refund at filing time vs. money in the weekly paycheck. so what? is your semantic argument really salient?

A basic ‘cut’ would be available to everyone paying taxes. A ‘credit’ is only available to the people who meet the criteria for that specific credit. How many Americans will get the credit for buying a hybrid or for college tuition, for example? the credits that most Americans WILL qualify for are pretty small.
