woo-hoo! spring training games have hit the t.v. schedule! this means soooooo much more than just the imminent opening of regular season play … it means winter is on the wane … welcome sunshine and warm weather and flowers and trees and izzie being able to play outside …
and didion is right-this-very-moment watching his first baseball game … the mets hosting the cardinals …
his daddy should be wildly disappointed that his son’s first baseball game is not a yankees game.
i, however, am thrilled. the mets have a way of consistently delivering (disregarding the last 17 games of the 2007 season) that makes me enormously happy.
what makes me even happier is the incredibly high quality of announcing the mets t.v. announcers provide. i so completely adore ron darling, gary cohen, and — most especially — keith hernandez. they are so knowledgeable and so NOT into themselves with pomposity or other taking-themselves-too-seriously faults. they have PERSPECTIVE and senses of humor … AND they tell it like it is … a la chick hearn …
some subjects discussed so far during the game:
pythagorean theorem, tire fires, the new york jets, the depth of the mets farm system, building an effective right-hand bench, and tiki bars.
keith is wearing a hawaiian shirt, ron is in a polo, and gary is wearing a windbreaker that looks very similar to one that steven wears around the house.
i love this level of casual expertise, and i am super-excited for the regular season.
right now it’s the top of the eighth … cards 4, mets 3 … one out.
and didion is chillin’ in his highchair, sucking on his hand, jabberin’ and watchin’ the game.
